SD Dental Solutions Launches Dentistry Scholarship to Support Future Dentists and Tackle Talent Gap in Dental Industry

Sacramento, March 12, 2025 – SD Dental Solutions, a dental billing and commercial consulting company, has launched a dentistry scholarship for high school seniors who aspire to work in dentistry in future.

According to the American Dental Association (ADA) there are over 200,000 dentists working in the United States, but with a looming talent exodus linked to generational retirement, COVID-19 pandemic impacts and struggles to recruit supporting staff, the industry has a significant skills gap approaching.

SD Dental has launched this scholarship, a $1500 sum, plus mentoring support, to help provide both incentive and support in young people looking to embark on a career in dentistry. They believe it is important to channel this at an early age in order to help plug the future skills gap.

“Dentistry is such an important part of our day-to-day health and it is worrying to see the number of dentistry professionals declining,” said Sara Baker, CEO of SD Dental Solutions. “This is an industry that we are passionate about and is core to our business, so we wanted to find an opportunity to give back and to help young people realize that a fantastic career awaits them in the dentistry industry.”

Dentistry has long been a highly regarded career, for its meaningful impact, improving the quality of patients’ lives and the rigorous education and skills needed to practice it. It is also one of the highest-paying health professions in the US and with dentists ranking in the top 8% of family earners in the country; providing a lucrative career path that could help to secure long-term financial stability.

Dentistry combines technical expertise with creativity. From diagnosing conditions using cutting-edge technology to designing a smile that enhances facial aesthetics, this career uniquely merges art, science, and interpersonal skills. There are many specialist functions such as orthodontists, maxillofacial surgeons and prosthodontists.
